Obituary for John J. Umnus

John J. Umnus, 88, of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, passed away on February 15, 2022. John was born on July 23, 1933, to Ernest and Lucy (nee Sagert) Umnus in Burlington, Wisconsin. He was united in marriage to Marcia (nee Kribley) Umnus, who passed away in 2002, and with whom he had five children.

John is survived by his children Kimberly (Rick) Feiner, Stacy (Randy) Bulow, and Andrew (Meredith) Umnus. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Craig (Kalee Mahr) Hollman, Adam and Joshua Bulow, and Mackenzie, Luke, and Vince Umnus; his great-granddaughter, Elise; his siblings William, Lucy, Gerry, and Florence; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, parents, daughters Dawn and Donna, and siblings Warren, Mary Jane, Robert, and Pauline.

John worked for many years in the construction industry as a laborer, and enjoyed a longtime position at the Lake Geneva Raceway. He additionally served as a member of the United States Army, and took abundant pride in his service and his country. John enjoyed deer hunting, teaching the grandkids to play poker, and anything involving John Wayne. He will be remembered for his vast sense of humor, his selflessness, and his generosity to all. John will be deeply missed by friends and family members alike.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the funeral home (515 Center Street, Lake Geneva, WI 53147) on Monday, February 21, 2022, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. A service will take place at 1 p.m., with Pastor Bob Kamps of Como Community Church officiating, and a time of open sharing to follow.
